F45 5900/5950

Class unit 5900 shines at Watson Yard near the Port of Los Angeles, CA in July 1974. Bob Finan photo.

Seven years later, Bill Wiebel caught a repainted and somewhat less shiny 5900 standing east of the Argentine shop in Kansas City, KS. A fresh coat of paint would come in 17 months, when the San Bernardino, CA shops would remanufacture the unit into "SDF45" 5950.

Fresh from Berdoo, 5950 leads two more freshly remanufactured F45's and three other less than sparkling units eastbound over the summit of Cajon Pass. Bill Morrison photo.
