ATSF 5975 - BNSF 6552

SPSF-painted 5975, one of twenty F45's to wear this short-lived scheme, drifts downgrade just east of Summit, CA. Bill Morrison photo.

Back in blue and yellow, with a full-sized noseband, 5975 rolls a westbound toward Belen, NM in 1990.

A roof view of 5975 in 1995. Santa Fe had just become BNSF, and the F45 fleet was down to three.

ATSF 5975 became BNSF 6552 in January 1998. Of the three BNSF F45's, it was the only one that never got ditchlights.

John Mallory photographed BNSF 6552 in retirement at Topeka in October 2002. The unit had been out of service for nearly three and a half years.

Merrill Price found the 6552 among the vast collection of stored locomotives at the National Railway Equipment Company facility in Silvis, IL on July 24, 2004. BNSF 6551 was also there that day.
