Still wearing Santa Fe colors, but without Santa Fe markings, MKCX 5983 was looking the part of a lease unit by early 1996. The locomotive was one of a handful of F45's that received plow pilots in place of their old, steeply sloping pilots. ATSF 5956 also carried a plow pilot in its final years on the Santa Fe, and subsequently on Wisconsin Central as their 6651.
