San Juan Capistrano, CA

Taking "mission style" a step further than most Santa Fe depots, the unique brick depot at San Juan Capistrano was built in 1894. Chuck Clope photographed it and the nearby freight house in 1962, six years before the agency closed.

The depots became a restuarant in 1975. Additions were made that joined the two buildings, and the passenger station, which had always worn a coat of white paint as a Santa Fe depot, was sandblasted down to the bare red brick. The view below, also by Mr. Clope, shows the passenger station as it looked in 1993.
