Chanute, KS

This grand edifice was built in 1902 and enlarged in 1917. In addition to the depot, it once contained Santa Fe division offices and a Harvey House. Following extensive renovations beginning in 1990, the building now houses the public library and the Martin and Osa Johnson Safari Museum. A single track, now used by the South Kansas & Oklahoma RR, passes almost apologetically in front of the structure. Paul Souter photo, 2002.
