Concordia was a rare example of a standard frame depot with a stucco exterior. Medicine Lodge and Sharon, KS, and Lockney, TX are other known other examples. By 1992, Concordia it was also one of only a handful of frame depots still being used by the railroad (interestingly enough, so was Medicine Lodge). Maintenance of way forces had cut a garage door into the former freight room end of the structure, presumably taking out an elevated freight platform in the process. The outline of an elevated freight door can be seen in the cracked stucco to the right of the garage door. Santa Fe's depot kept company with several others in downtown Concordia. Part of the former Missouri Pacific brick station can be seen in the background, and a third depot that once served the Burlington was located a short distance behind the photographer. |
