Del Mar, CA

Del Mar was an interesting example of standard frame depot with a brick veneer exterior. The depot was built in 1910 to the standard #2A plan used throughout California, but was the only example of that type where brick was used in place of the usual clapboard siding (the East Highlands depot and its partial stone cladding notwithstanding). The Del Mar station continued to serve as a stop for the Amtrak San Diegans into the 1990's, but unfortunately the station suffered from an inconvenient location and limited parking. By the time this picture was taken in 1998, Amtrak had moved its Del Mar stop elsewhere and the station was deserted.
