The incongruous brick chimney and platform are all that remain to identify this nondescript structure as the old Ethel, MO depot. The metal siding was added in the late 80's or early 1990's when the building was rebuilt for maintenance of way service. Ironically, the depot was rebuilt once before in the 1950's, and managed to retain its original wood siding instead of receiving the asbestos siding treatment common at the time. Prior to that first rebuild, the depot apparently had a large, interlocking-style bay window, as the outline is still discernable upon close examination of the platform bricks. |
