Guthrie, OK

The large station at Guthrie was completed in 1903, seven years before the state capital moved to Oklahoma City. The building housed a Fred Harvey lunch room as well as offices. For a time, it served as a union station for Santa Fe, M-K-T, and the Ft. Smith & Western, but by the late 30's, Santa Fe was the only tenant. The depot continued to serves passenger trains until 1979, when Amtrak's Lone Star from Chicago to Houston was dropped from the timetable. The building was vacated, and had fallen into disrepair by the time the 1992 photo at left was taken.
The depot was restored in 1998 as a restaurant called "The Depot," but by mid-2000 the restaurant had closed. As of late 2002, a bakery was occupying a portion of the building, and the rest was undergoing further renovations by a local businessman. Shane Murphy recorded this and the top image in September 2002.
