Ingalls and Montezuma, KS

The Ingalls depot was a typical 24x42 standard depot built in 1891. It was retired in 1971 and moved a few blocks south of the tracks to become the town museum. Several years later, the depot from Montezuma, KS on the line from Dodge City to Boise City was moved in. Their proximity allows one to compare the pre-1910 and post-1910 standard designs for depots of approximately the same dimension. Unfortunately, both depots have been coated in metal siding, and several windows and the baggage room door on Montezuma have been covered over. As built, Ingalls had board and batten siding, while Montezuma modelled the later 2" clapboard siding used on the 1910-standard depots.
