Monrovia, CA |

The stucco and concrete depot at Monrovia was standing deserted and vandalized when its picture was taken in 1999. Opened in 1926, it was one of a series of unique mission style depots built along the Santa Fe in Southern California. There were some similarities among the stations, with Monrovia most closely resembling the depot 16 miles away at Claremont. Unlike Claremont, which was restored as a transportation center, Monrovia has been left to decay since its closure in 1972. The tracks end a short distance beyond the station, where the Santa Fe Second District once crossed the 210 freeway. |
