Ness City, KS

Branchline frame depots were virtually extinct by the 1990's, but the large frame depot at Ness City somehow beat the odds. Though no longer an agency, the 1903-built structure was still being used by the railroad when it was photographed in 1992. The freight room had been converted to a garage for maintenance trucks, with a large roll-up door at ground level replacing the sliding freight door. The depot is believed to still be in use by the Central Kansas Railroad, which purchased the Scott City branch from the Santa Fe at the end of 1992.
