Redlands, CA

Looking more like something Southern Pacific might have built, the Santa Fe Redlands depot was constructed in 1910. A nearly 300-foot long colonnade along the platform disguised the somewhat more modest 100-foot depot building itself. The depot closed in 1970, but remained trackside as seen in these photos by Matt Jackson in 2001. The remnant of the Redlands Loop sees only a local freight a few times a week, but the rails themselves are now owned by the state, with potential future use as a passenger corridor. There may well come a time when passengers will alight from their trains (albeit commuter trains) at a restored Redlands depot.
