San Diego, CA

A jewel of Santa Fe architecture, the San Diego station was built in 1915, replacing an ornate frame structure dating from 1887. The church-like station made tasteful but generous use of Santa Fe emblems, placing them in every conceivable location - around the "belfries," as tile murals in the waiting room, as bronze plaques on the platforms, etc. The well maintained structure remains an active passenger station, serving Amtrak Surfliners and Coaster commuter trains as well as the San Diego Trolley.
