Depots sold to individuals are frequently heavily modified to suit their needs and tastes. Such was the case with the depot from Scott City. Not that the Santa Fe didn't do its share - at some point in the 1950's or 60's, this pre-1910 style depot was rebuilt with asbestos siding and the bay window was removed. Following its retirement, the depot was moved to a site north of Garden City for use as a garage. In the 1992 view above, only the characteristic diamond-shaped red asbestos shingles and "cobweb" style roof brackets remain to identify this as a former Santa Fe depot. The end window and door arrangement may also be as Santa Fe left it, but that's hard to say. |
