Strong City, KS |

The handsome brick depot at Strong City appeared to still be in use by the Santa Fe
when this picture was taken in 1990. Its build date has not been researched, but it appears
to be a further evolution of the county seat style and probably dates from the late 1910's or
early 1920's. Santa Fe ultimately wound up with two Strong Cities on its system map. One was in Kansas along the original main line, and was named for railroad president William Barstow Strong (as was Barstow, CA). The other was in Oklahoma along the Clinton & Oklahoma Western, which Santa Fe acquired in 1929. |
