The "Used" Bumper Post

Bumper posts are supposed to keep freight cars from rolling off the ends of tracks, but are a thousand or so pounds of steel girders bolted to the rail really a match for a 100-ton loaded freight car or two? This luckless product of the Hayes company suggests an answer. From the looks of it, the bumper *did* stop whatever hit it, but it probably wouldn't survive a repeat performance.
