What's a "croing?"

There are at least eight different ways the two signboards of a crossbuck can be applied to a post with two bolt holes, but only one of those ways is correct. With thousands of crossbucks in use across the system, it was probably inevitable that a few of the "other" combinations would crop up from time to time, as in the case of this unfortunate 'buck at Fox, NM. The boards were only lettered on one side, so it wasn't a case of the word "crossing" being painted on both sides of one signboard.
