Beauty Mark?

Sometime in 1979, GP35 3358 gained an odd black sticker above its Santa Fe noseband. The unit models its new look at the now-gone Albuquerque roundhouse in February 1980. The 3358 kept the square until it was rebuilt in 1984, though by late 1983 the corners were beginning to peel up. Just exactly why the sticker was added is a mystery. A beauty mark, perhaps? A stylized "nose" to go with the classification light "eyes" and noseband "mouth?" Seriously, if anyone knows the real story, I'd be interested to know.
