Sixteen rebuilt GP20's received the red and yellow scheme. Unit 3070, seen struggling with a local drag at Albuquerque, NM in 1988, is representative. Note that all traces of the classification lights on the nose have been removed.
The new Toledo Peoria & Western Railroad acquired 19 ATSF GP20's in 1989, including five painted in SPSF colors. Many of these lasted in red and yellow with Santa Fe markings painted out into the late 90's. See the escapees page for more details.
