Assuming that all Santa Fe-owned units were repainted by the end of 1990, only units retired before that date could have escaped with their SPSF paint intact. Three GP7's fulfill this requirement: 2001, 2064, and 2126, all retired in 1989. It is now known that 2064 was repainted blue and yellow before retirement, but retained its white-on-red numberboards.
Unit 2001 was definitely retired in red and yellow, as this post-retirement photo of the unit at the Great Western Railway shops illustrates. It presumably didn't remain in SPSF paint long, though, as it was refurbished and sold to the Council Bluffs Railroad as their 714 a few months later.
Unit 2126 went to National Railway Equipment (NRE) in June of 1989. It isn't known
what paint scheme the locomotive was retired in, nor where it is today.
