Dave Churry photographed one of the shortest-lived SPSF-repaints leading three of her SD45-2
sisters in April 1986. Santa Fe SD45-2 7205 had been released from the San Bernardino Shops in
SPSF paint the previous month, and had helped power the "museum train" that delivered Santa Fe's
historic locomotive collection to the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento, CA. The unit
was involved in a disfiguring accident at Barstow, CA in May, 1986, and Churry caught it on its way
back to San Bernardino for repairs (below). The ICC handed down its denial of the SPSF merger while
the unit was in the shop, and when it emerged as ATSF 5805 during the last week of August 1986, it
was wearing a fresh coat of blue and yellow.
