Water Tank and Pumphouse at Elkhart, KS


This well preserved facility at Elkhart, KS includes a system standard frame pumphouse (with an addition to one side) and a 24x43 tank with a conical roof. Roofed tanks were something of an oddity in Kansas, but several were built along the Cimarron Valley District. The track in the foreground of the picture below is the west leg of the wye, with the "main line" barely visible on the right. Note the traces of the tank-mounted spout that once faced the wye track.
