Class Ce-12

Class Ce-12: #999652

A one-car class, Ce-12 999652 was rebuilt from Ce-3 999615 in 1981 using the cushion underframe from a wrecked mechanical refrigerator car. More Ce-12's might have been built from the remaining obsolete Ce, Ce-3, 5, and 7 classes had it not been for sagging traffic levels and a resultant surplus of cabooses. A few years later, caboose-off agreements would render hundreds of cabooses surplus. The 999652 was retired in 1987, and found a new home next to the Santa Fe depot (now a museum) and mainline in Mulvane, KS.
