Class Ce-7

Class Ce-7: #999640-999651

The dozen Ce-7 class cars were modified but not significantly upgraded standard all-steel cabooses. The modifications were performed at San Bernardino to provide refurbished cars for local and transfer service on the west coast. The Ce-7's retained their old 4-digit numbers until 1975, when they were renumbered into the 999640-series. Some cars received the standard Santa Fe caboose scheme with yellow cupolas to indicate local service, but some served out their lives in the old mineral brown scheme. The cars were phased out in the early 1980's; the last ones were retired in 1985. ATSF 999648 now reposes at Sonoma Traintown in Sonoma, CA along with several other cabooses from UP and SP.
