| In 1978, the Topeka shops upgraded 39 Ce and Ce-5 class cars and one Ce-3 car to road service cars of the Ce-9 class. As with the Ce-1's and 2's, the cars received sealed windows, cushion underframes, and various other modifications. They were used system-wide, and a few managed to hang on into the early 1990's before being stricken from the roster. Car 999576 below received a new coat of paint very late in life, in the mid-80's. The last few cabooses the Santa Fe bothered to paint did not receive the usual large numerals on the cupola. |
