The depot at Baldwin, KS appears to be an example of an early standard brick county seat depot plan. It was built in 1906, and similar structures were built at Carlsbad, NM in 1904 and Woodward, OK in 1910. The Woodward depot would have been a late reuse of an old plan, since by 1907 Santa Fe was building depots to a modified plan that eliminated the arched windows (see Florence). The Baldwin depot is now used by the Midland Railway for their excursions on the ex-Santa Fe branch from Ottawa. Photo by Paul Souter, 2002. |
