Loving, NM

A boomer at heart, this little 12'x40' depot managed to wander 47.7 miles up the Pecos Branch before retiring in Carlsbad, NM. Built in 1910 at Orla, it was closed as an agency in 1926. It was moved and reopened at Angeles, 6.1 miles north, in 1935. Ten years later, it was moved again, this time 29.2 miles to Loving, where it stayed until Santa Fe finally retired it in 1969. It passed into private hands and was literally put out to pasture, making one final move 12.4 miles to a vacant lot in Carlsbad. Photos courtesy Lance Goodrich.
