Moriarty, NM

The Santa Fe Central railroad built this metal-sided depot at Moriarty in 1903, one of four such structures on their "main line" from Santa Fe to Torrance, NM. The railroad, later known as the New Mexico Central, was absorbed by the Santa Fe in 1926. The depot was replaced by a small frame building and a wooden boxcar body in 1949, but remained on-site (Santa Fe would rename their Moriarty station "Calvert" in 1959). The depot passed through several hands in succeeding years, serving as a feed store, a workshop, and finally (?) as Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. The wooden porticos on the front of the building were added by the church.
