Norman, OK

The 1909 brick depot at Norman, OK was a typical Santa Fe county seat depot. There were several common plans of this general style, some which including open waiting rooms and some not. Norman's plan with a single-arch open waiting room was shared by the depots at Stafford and Kingman, KS and Waynoka, OK. All of these depots were eventually saw their open waiting rooms enclosed, and Norman additionally had several of its sliding baggage and freight room doors bricked shut. When these photos of Norman were taken in 1992, a preservation group had restored the depot to more or less its as-built appearance. Norman had been a stop on Amtrak's Lone Star until that train was cancelled in 1979. Twenty years later, it became an Amtrak stop once again with the inauguration of Amtrak's Heartland Flyer from Oklahoma City, OK to Fort Worth, TX.
