Pauls Valley, OK

A fairly typical (huge) GC&SF style frame depot, Pauls Valley in 1992 represented a very rare item along the Santa Fe - a boarded up frame depot. Most unused frame depots had long since been sold off or demolished. The depot had been a station stop for Amtrak's Lone Star until that train was discontinued in 1979.
In the mid-1990's, the community acquired the depot and restored it (after a fashion) as a museum. Brent Frerck photographed the building in February 1999. Santa Fe 2-8-0 #1951, formerly at Wacker Park, was moved nearby for display. The museum was supposedly going to leave room in the depot for a passenger waiting area should Amtrak service resume at some point in the future. Amtrak service returned in 1999 in the form of the Heartland Flyer, but reportedly passengers at Pauls Valley must wait outside the depot for the train. Brent Frerck photo.
